Well, well, well. What a year! The past 4 months have been awesome, having done no fewer than 10 shows in Camden, Holloway, Kent, Kingston and Leicester. Playing my old home-from-home the Underworld again after so many years was a fantastic highlight. It's really, really good to be back. We have so much exciting stuff in the pipeline for next year. In the meantime, as 2021 draws to a close, we have but one final show left. Fittingly, it's a Camden Rocks event much like the one that kicked things off back in July. Star Circus made a triumphant return to the stage on 24th July 2021 at the Camden Assembly, co-headlining an all day Camden Rocks event with The Kut.
But the show very nearly got derailed when the whole band was struck down with Covid 19 two weeks earlier. Luckily Dave, Sophie and Thomas were showing fast signs of recovery, and with non-refundable tickets sold and people travelling in from miles outside London we were able to perform as a power-trio! In addition to this, it was Sophie's first show on bass, and she played like a demon! Riccardo is now fully recovered and we are rehearsing up a set for a whole bunch of London shows in August and September. Sadly we couldn't all celebrate together like previous years, so what we did instead was record a charity single for the NHS.
It's a special acoustic version of 'Before The Song Is Over', totally different to the one on the forthcoming album. Featuring live members of Terrorvision, Carcass & The Sisters of Mercy and a host of other friends, it's a beautiful rendition of this anthemic and uplifting song, accompanied by the YouTube video above featuring all 15 of us recording our parts at home, before everyone else made the same video! :-) Our second single, 'Save Your Life' was released in April 2020. The spectacular video, directed by Stephanie Zapolska and starring Sophie Aurélia Young, received much acclaim and caught the attention of various radio stations and alternative press in the USA, as well as being a favourite of Dunk McKellar on TotalRock radio in the UK.
The debut single 'Love Is The Enemy' was released in February 2020 on all streaming platforms, including YouTube; with this fun and vibrant lyric video.
The launch show for 'Love Is The Enemy' took place at The Lounge 666 in London on 4th February 2020. The Star Circus set was preceded by 2 awesome support bands: Izzy Thomas and New Device. To (quite literally) warm up the crowd, Star Circus kicked off their set with a fire performance spectacle that led straight into the opening song 'Save Your Life'! The show was attended by many of London's rock n' roll elite, and even some international fans who flew in from abroad. The most fun way to start the decade!
